Mansion SW3 Residence (formerly IES Residence Hall), Chelsea, is primarily intended for postgraduate students, so it has a young but reasonably mature atmosphere. The location is excellent: fashionable, safe neighbourhood with good shopping and good transport links. There are local supermarkets nearby and also plenty of cafes, bars and restaurants. The nearest underground station is South Kensington which is a 12 minute walk away, or a quick ride on the 49 bus.
There is 24 hour CCTV surveillance throughout and security pass controlled access to common areas such as kitchens. There is someone at the front desk at all times. The staff are friendly and well organised.
The residence is self-catering and has good kitchen facilities which include a cooker, fridge, dishwasher, fridge freezer and utensils. Seven residents share a kitchen, and each has their own locker for food. One kitchen per floor is fitted for students with disabilities.
The laundry room costs £2 per wash and £1 per dry. Washing powder can be bought in a vending machine.
There are comfortable lounges throughout the building with cable TV, DVD and additional data ports for laptop hookups.
There are not many single rooms, so it may be necessary to pay for a twin room for single.
