Course content

The course is a highly intensive programme, focusing on all of the main skills that are required in the PTE academic exam:

  • Writing
  • Reading
  • Listening
  • Speaking

As part of the course, you will do regular examination practice to get you used to working under examination conditions. You will also concentrate on developing good examination techniques.

Throughout the course, you will be set homework exercises, with particular emphasis on reading and writing. You will receive feedback, correction and advice.

Timed exam practice is built into the course and you will have access to self study material both online and paper-based to help you maximise your time.

    The exam

    The examination

    The examination consists of the following three components and types of questions and tasks:

    • Speaking & Writing – In part 1 you will be tested on your speaking and writing skills. You will have approximately 77-93 minutes to complete this part. The speaking tasks will include reading aloud, repeating a sentence, describing an image, re-telling a lecture and answering a short question. The writing will include summarizing a written text, and writing an essay.
    • Reading – In part 2 you will be tested on your reading skills. You will have approximately 32-41 minutes to complete this part. The reading tasks will include multiple choice with both single and multiple answers, re-ordering paragraphs and filling in the blanks
    • Listening – in part 3 you will be tested on your listening skills. You will have approximately 45-57 minutes to complete this part. The listening tasks will include summarizing a spoken text, multiple choice, filling in the blanks, highlight correct summary, select missing word, highlight incorrect words, and write from dictation.

    You will be scored on 4 communication skills:

    • Reading
    • Writing
    • Listening
    • Speaking

    And 6 enabling skills:

    • Grammar
    • Oral fluency
    • Pronunciation
    • Spelling
    • Vocabulary
