The London School of English is a language training partner of ELSA, the European Law Students’ Association, which has 32,000 members in 42 countries across Europe. ELSA members regularly come to study at The London School of English on our Young Lawyers’ programmes. This year the ELSA International Conference was held in Albufeira, Portugal; a few days later, the Polish branch of ELSA held their National Conference in Gdansk. Two of our highly experienced legal English trainers, Nick Wadsworth and Caroline Hare, gave taster sessions based on aspects of our Young Lawyers’ programme to 95 ELSA delegates during the two conferences. Their lively, interactive sessions focused on a contract negotiation, featuring role plays, vocabulary building and language feedback.
Here are some reactions from participants in the taster sessions in Gdansk and Albufeira:
“I had pleasure participating in a workshop on Effective Communication in Negotiations, which I’d say exceeded my expectations. It delivered serviceable knowledge since teacher focused on practising key words and grammatical constructions, which are generally used over negotiations on contracts. Through exercising in groups, vocabulary became easily and successfully remembered. Moreover, I’m greatly impressed with Mrs. Caroline Hare's teaching. Her individual approach, flexibility in order to meet students’ needs and friendly atmosphere were significant advantages of the workshop.”

“Finding the right words in many different situations can be very difficult - London School of English provided us with a perfect training on Negotiation skills and helped me to improve my English language and find the exact words, which suit the situation. Finding the right words is essential for the success of negotiation!”
“At the negotiation Training of the London School of English I learned to use the right words at the right time. Do you think that these are the most important things in a negotiation? Is that so? Then you might know in which country it is desired to go directly into medias res and in which countries small-talk is inevitable? After this training I am also aware of cultural specifications.”
“Experiencing the London School of English training showed me different points of view regarding culture and language – using these points for negotiation situations will give me confidence in my future career.”
