When you read this post I’ll be in Ireland, where I usually spend at least some of my Christmas holidays with my partner’s friends and family. Many of our students also take the opportunity to pop across the water to the ROI during their stay in the UK so I’d like to offer a bit of advice to help them and you tune in to Irish English and culture.

Every December the radio plays our favourite Christmas songs and each year we hope, in vain, that the immortal words of Bing Crosby will come true when he croons “I’m dreaming of a white Christmas” Well not anymore, enough is enough, I’d be happy never to see snow again (unless skiing of course but that’s different!)

Not only are our staff at LSE very experienced and well qualified in teaching English as a foreign language, they are also great entertainers! In fact, I think we might be one of the only schools in London to have its own band.

I’m just coming to the end of teaching our latest FCE course and as my class are taking their Reading, Writing, Use of English and Listening papers today (good luck! I’ve got my fingers crossed for them) I have a little time to reflect on how exam students can best maximize their chances of success.

I frequently teach business English courses at our Holland Park School and I often show business DVDs in the class room. The two most popular ones are definitely The Apprentice and Dragons’ Den, both currently showing on the BBC. Today I’d like to tell you about The Apprentice as I believe that there are some lessons to be learnt from watching it.
