I recently took a few months sabbatical away from the school which is why you haven’t seen me write any blog posts recently. I went travelling around South America and then I went to do some voluntary work with a Shuar community in the Ecuadorian rainforest.

Just like Laura, I’ve just come back from a city break but went slightly further afield than Glasgow, Berlin. I’ve been meaning to go ever since I lived in Germany many moons ago but just never got round to it; but now that I have, I certainly wasn’t disappointed. Berlin has so much to offer that it was impossible for me to do everything I wanted to in three days, but I’d like to share the highlights of my trip.

If you remember, a couple of weeks ago I blogged about my forthcoming trip to Glasgow. Well, my visit to Scotland’s biggest city has been and gone, so as promised I’ll tell you a little bit about how it compared to my expectations.

We have a long weekend this weekend. Yay! Four whole days off work for Easter (that’s Good Friday, Saturday, Easter Sunday and Easter Monday) so I’m venturing out of London for the weekend. And not just out of London, but out of England too – to Scotland in fact, although as both countries are part of the UK I won’t be needing my passport!

A couple of months ago, here on this blog, I wrote about my experiences of homesickness and culture shock when I was out in Azerbaijan teaching IELTS. Although a lot of water has passed under the bridge since I was in Baku, and I now look back fondly on my time there, I vividly remember the feelings of loneliness and frustration I encountered. It made me wonder why I was feeling the way I was, and whether these feelings were natural.
