A little bit of Irish English

When you read this post I’ll be in Ireland, where I usually spend at least some of my Christmas holidays with my partner’s friends and family. Many of our students also take the opportunity to pop across the water to the ROI during their stay in the UK so I’d like to offer a bit of advice to help them and you tune in to Irish English and culture.

The Weather

Every December the radio plays our favourite Christmas songs and each year we hope, in vain, that the immortal words of Bing Crosby will come true when he croons “I’m dreaming of a white Christmas” Well not anymore, enough is enough, I’d be happy never to see snow again (unless skiing of course but that’s different!)

The School Band

I’ve got my fingers crossed for them) I have a little time to reflect on how exam students can best maximize their chances of success.

The Apprentice

I frequently teach business English courses at our Holland Park School and I often show business DVDs in the class room. The two most popular ones are definitely The Apprentice and Dragons’ Den, both currently showing on the BBC. Today I’d like to tell you about The Apprentice as I believe that there are some lessons to be learnt from watching it.
