Global Leaders: Change Makers of Tomorrow
Develop the skills to lead, influence and create change on a global stage
The Global Leaders programme introduces students to key areas of global leadership through a series of practical modules. Students then apply what they learn by working in teams to design and pitch a real world awareness raising campaign for a global organisation.
Across two weeks, participants build the knowledge, skills and confidence needed to communicate ideas clearly, work collaboratively and lead with purpose in an international context.
Who is the course for?
The course is for focused young adults with a passion for making change happen who are ready to explore their future options and develop intercultural friendships. Perhaps you’re thinking about a university qualification, an apprenticeship or work placement in this area. This course will equip you with the skills you need to achieve your goals with confidence. You’ll get a real feel for what university life is like by living in a University of London residence and studying at the historic University of London building, Senate House.
How the course works
Step 1: Learn the core modules
Students take part in interactive sessions covering essential leadership and global engagement skills, including:
- Understanding today’s most pressing global issues
- Problem solving and decision making in an international context
- Leadership communication and meeting skills
- Presentation and public speaking techniques
- Persuasion, influence and handling questions confidently
- Campaign planning, marketing and budgeting basics
These sessions are practical and discussion based, using role plays and group tasks to reinforce learning.
Step 2: Apply your learning through a real-world project
Students then put their learning into practice by working in teams on a final project.
Each group:
- Represents an international organisation, NGO or charity
- Choose a global issue they want to raise awareness of
- Designs a complete awareness-raising campaign
The campaign includes:
- Clear messaging and campaign goals
- Marketing materials such as posters, social media content and digital assets
- A simple campaign budget showing how funds would be used
- A final pitch presented to the class
On the final day, teams pitch their campaign as if seeking funding, demonstrating their leadership, communication and strategic thinking skills.

A clear understanding of major global challenges and leadership responsibilities
-
Practical experience working in international, project based teams
- Strengthened communication, confidence and critical thinking for effective leadership
-
An expanded vocabulary for discussing current issues and change
-
A tangible project they can reference in future studies, applications or interviews
Students will also benefit from enrichment activities such as expert guest talks and a visit to the Houses of Parliament, offering first hand insight into how change is created in the UK and beyond.
Alongside academic and professional development, students gain:
-
New friendships with peers from all over the world
-
A taste of living and studying in London
-
Greater independence and self awareness to support future university or career plans
